Featured in this piece is an authentic WWI victory medal: the bronze Belgian Allied Victory medal (dated 1914-1918). Each allied country produced a victory medal but the Belgian medal is highly prized for two reasons: few were awarded and the design (by Paul DuBois) shows remarkable elegance. In this medal winged Victory is standing on a globe with her arms and wings spread out looking down at the earth. The back of the medal shows the shield of the allies. The edge of the medal is inscribed with text that translates to “The Great War for Civilization”. The black beads finishing this necklace are obsidian.
*This piece is currently on display at Fort Works Art and may be purchased through the gallery.
